Blog # 10 Harpenden, Uk Drama Cast and Work Team By Don Dennison
On a beautiful February day, we flew out to a very chilly and rainy London, England. It was cold in Harpenden, UK, and it even snowed on one day. I was not prepared well enough for the cold weather, but our host, Susan was able to borrow a warm sweatshirt for me to wear while indoors. Susan Murphy is our good friend and contact, as well as the Site Development Manager at YWAM Harpenden. She showed us around the campus and she even drove us around the neighboring countryside, which was stunning scenery! We were also able to take the train into London one evening (about an hour) for a walking tour and a bite to eat at an unforgettable underground restaurant called The Café in the Crypt. Yes, it was an actual crypt underneath St. Martins-in-the-Fields Church!
During our time there, we discussed the (supposed) upcoming work team for this September, but our God had a different plan. Susan arranged several meetings for us with many leaders on the base, all with different responsibilities. Every person we met was very enthusiastic about the work team coming! Here is what we thought we were coming to do: To put a new roof on their existing Factory Building and to do finish work inside a new dormitory. We needed to recruit roofers, carpenters, painters, and construction people who could do finish work inside the structures. We also wanted to serve with one of the local churches in Harpenden. Now, because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the team had to be canceled. However, we are still hopeful that there will be a work team going there in the future. We have done the groundwork, and the missionary base there is most open and welcoming to the prospect of our teams coming. You can check out our team website at:

The second the reason we went to Harpenden was to check out some potential venues for Hidden Treasure Productions to perform there from April 7th to 21st, 2021. We visited many different theatres to see if we could build a relationship with them.
We visited The Abby Theatre in St. Alban’s, a nearby city. The theatre manager, Tina Swain gave us a tour of this very impressive theatre. We also went to see the Harpenden Public Halls and we also thought of performing at the YWAM base within the new Factory Building, once it is completed. We ultimately decided on the Harpenden Public Halls because they are right in town and they are close to where we would be housed. It is also going to be a brand new facility that will be completed by January of 2021! We are planning to perform five shows in that theatre. Also, we want to reach out to the local colleges and high schools to perform Shadows of the Mind in their theatres, at no cost to them.
